Novacella’s abbey in Varna, near Bressanone
The beautiful abbey of Novacella is only 40 kilometres away from Chienes. Founded in 1142 by Hartmann, bishop of Bressanone, the building maintains the original function as an Augustinian abbey. It contains several historical and artistic treasures, which you’ll be able to admire during your visit. The towering Basilica, the precious library and the fascinating cloister with frescos from the XIV and XV centuries are definitely worth a visit.
The abbey’s wine cellar is truly sensational and you’ll be able to taste the quality-wines produced locally. The grapes harvested here are also used to produce the most excellent wines of the Valle Isarco including: Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer, Kerner, Müller Thurgau, Rurländer and Veltiner.
